You can have anything when money is no object
Luxury yachts are all about lounging around in opulent luxury, having everything exactly as you like it. That extends to the yacht itself, since virtually all of them are customized to a huge degree to reflect the owner’s tastes and preferences.
But sometimes these ideas can take on a life of their own, and the results can be truly astounding. Here’s just a small sample of wild concept yachts from designers offering something truly different for those customers who want to stand out from the crowd.
Avanguardia
Created by noted Italian industrial designer Pierpaolo Lazzarini, Avanguardia – better known as the luxury yacht that looks like a swan – might just be the most eye-popping yacht design of all time.
With the bridge contained in a stand-alone “head” pod which can be lowered into the water on an articulated neck and driven away as a stand-alone tender, Avanguardia is not just a flight of fancy, but a legitimate, practical yacht concept, and Lazzarini has received serious interest from potential yacht buyers and prominent shipyards around the world interested in bringing his remarkable design to life.
Cantharus
If you like the look of a sunken living room, then you’ll love the superyacht concept Cantharus. Created by American designer Darin Osborne, Cantharus takes the whole concept of a sunken living space to entirely new levels.
That’s because Osborne’s 226-foot creation was designed from the bottom up with a luxurious living space below the waterline and framed in glass for panoramic views of the world below. It’s pretty snazzy looking above the waterline too, with two decks of glass-walled living space and a futuristic, aggressive profile. It’s one of the most interest concept yachts we’ve seen.
Das Boot
If you like the sunken living room concept, then you’ll probably love Nautilus, the fully submersible superyacht concept by Dutch designer U-Boat Worx.
Revealed at the recent Monaco Yacht Show, the Nautilus concept is a 123-foot 1,250-ton sub that can dive to more than 650 feet. A unique diesel-electric propulsion system lets it cruise underwater at 4 knots for up to six hours before you need to surface and return to diesel power in order to recharge the batteries. The interior space boasts a fully equipped galley, five staterooms and multiple bubble windows to take in the views.
Poetry in Motion
All superyachts are sleek. But the latest concept from Dutch yacht builder Sinot takes the dagger-like look to a whole new level that seems to boast more than a touch of influence from the architectural genius of Frank Lloyd Wright.
Named Poetry, the company’s concept 424-foot superyacht achieves its sleek lines by moving the pilothouse to the far front of the boat and leaving the prime midships real estate for owner and guest accommodation. Five staterooms including an enormous top-deck owner’s suite sleep up to 12 in obnoxious luxury, with additional accommodations below for a crew of 47. And no, that’s not a typo. There’s also room for multiple dining and lounging spaces, a sauna, a gym, a beauty salon and a massage parlor.
Beep Beep
While it’s easy to fall in love with huge luxury yachts, creative concept yachts can also be seen at the smaller end of the boat market, where Swan designer Pierpaolo Lazzarini also focuses on designs for average boaters like you and me with his whimsical automotive catamarans.
Built on pontoon-like hulls for the utmost stability, Lazzarini’s designs allow people to go boating with all the timeless style of classic automobiles like Jaguar E-Types, Mini Coopers, Fiat 500s and even VW camper vans – literally, something for everyone.
