At first glance the Lund 2175 Pro-V Sport simply looks like a bigger version of the standard aluminum fishing boat, with its elevated casting deck at the front, open main cockpit, and a smaller elevated casting deck at the back. But there’s more here than meets the eye.

New York Mills, Minnesota-based Lund Boats enjoys a strong reputation as a builder of premium freshwater aluminum fishing boats. The company can trace its roots back to 1948, when G. Howard Lund built his first aluminum boat. Lund chose aluminum for his boat because it was lighter and more durable than the wood strips more commonly used in boats of the day – he wanted the boat for fishing and duck hunting, and these were important advantages. When a salesman from Inland Marine Corp. saw Lund’s creation, he immediately asked him if he could produce 50 more, laying the groundwork for what became the Lund Boat Company.

Today Lund builds a wide range of aluminum and fiberglass boats, including serious fishing rigs for hardcore anglers. At the top of the line is the company’s Pro-V series, headed up by the massive Lund 2175 Pro-V Sport.

Let’s take a closer look at the Lund 2175 Pro-V Sport, starting with that huge front casting deck. Its vast carpeted surface offers plenty of space for a couple of anglers to fish in comfort. There’s a ton of room for gear as well, with two oversize storage compartments at the front of the deck. A 12-gallon aerated live well hides under another lid just ahead of the helm console while the lid in front of the passenger console lifts to reveal a huge insulated cooler. There’s also a massive rod locker in the central portion of the bow deck, with 15 individual rod tubes.

The bow deck rod storage locker has to be seen to be believed.

The bow and helm consoles are topped with a full walk-through windshield that provides protection from the elements when fishing early or late in the season, or in inclement weather. The passenger console offers a large glove box up top, and a large opening drawer in its base to provide still more storage space. The helm console also has a sliding storage drawer in its base, while the top of the helm is dominated by an elegantly designed dash panel with space to accommodate a large, flush-mounted display without blocking the driver’s view. It also accommodates the control head for the standard Kicker stereo.

If the big rod locker in the front deck wasn’t spacious enough, there’s an additional rod storage locker accessed through two sliding doors in the top of the port-side gunnel. A pair of deep drawers located on the inside gunnel wall accommodate eight and six Plano-style tackle tray boxes respectively. If that’s not enough tackle storage, you can fit another dozen Plano boxes in another storage area that spans across the face of the rear casting deck. Lift a lid at the edge of the deck and you’ll see room for 12 more tackle trays. The elevated rear casting deck also houses an enormous 25-gallon aerated live well that’s 51 inches long.

The gunnel top on the Lund 2175 Pro-V Sport is an aluminum extrusion with integrated channels that form Lund’s Sporttrak system, allowing anglers to position a variety of accessories from cup holders to downriggers anywhere along the gunnel and without having to drill any holes in their boat. It’s a great idea, and it works very well.

A pull-out ruler is a convenience for anglers who want to check their catch is of legal size, while at the stern, a pull-out boarding ladder is a great safety addition. Open more compartment lids and you’ll find the Lund 2175 Pro-V has no less than five battery holders, which is a good idea given the range of aftermarket electronic accessories that are likely to be loaded on board. A second 12/24/36-volt outlet at the stern can power a second electric motor, while the transom is built wide enough to accept a gas kicker engine along with the primary outboard, which in this case will be a big V6 of up to 350 horsepower. Fully loaded, the 2175 Pro-V is a heavy boat that can stand a bit of muscle.

Riding on Lund’s IPS hull, the Pro-V has always delivered the kind of stable, solid ride that pro anglers demand, and the 2175 is no different. It’s fast enough to get you to your tournament spots quickly, but without any white-knuckle moments. In other words, just what serious anglers want.
