Based on its popular 115 horsepower four-stroke outboard, the newly-announced Mercury 115 Pro XS model is said to be 18 pounds lighter than its nearest competitor, in spite of using the largest engine block (2.1L) on the market today. The result, according to Mercury, is higher torque, better performance and greater durability.

The new engine is described as being up to 3 mph faster than its nearest competitor, and more than 1 mph faster than Mercury’s standard 115 four-stroke. It’s also more than 1 second quicker than Mercury’s standard 115, while increasing the maximum engine speed from 6,000 to 6,300 rpm allows prop pitch to be reduced, putting the boat on plane quicker and reducing 0-to-20 mph acceleration time by 1 to 2 seconds. This is an important stat, as it implies that anglers can carry more gear while enjoying an edge in getting back to the tournament dock for weigh-in.

The new 115 Pro XS includes Mercury’s Idle-Charge feature, which provides up to 48 percent more battery charging at idle speed to support the greater power demands of today’s sophisticated marine electronics and accessories. What’s more, it lets boaters and anglers safely stay out on the water longer.
