Vonore, Tennessee-based towboat manufacturer MasterCraft has unveiled a new control package called the DockStar Handling System, which is said to provide boat drivers of any skill level the ability to confidently drive in reverse and more easily navigate tight docks and crowded marinas.

The innovative DockStar system improves the reverse maneuverability capabilities of MasterCraft boats with an inboard drives through a pair of low-profile, flanking rudders that enable port-side reverse control – previously unattainable with inboard towboats – facilitating docking and making it easier to control the vessel at low speeds.

According to the company, drivers accustomed to traditional inboard handling will be amazed at the boat’s ability to reverse both port and starboard without having to compensate. Newcomers to the inboard category, those accustomed to driving outboard or sterndrive-powered boats, should feel more at home when maneuvering in tight spaces

“MasterCraft and its progression are about making time on the water easier,” said the company’s president and CEO, Terry McNew. “After we identified a way to make boating with a MasterCraft even better for our customers, we put our team of experienced designers and naval architects to work. The DockStar Handling System improves the on-water experience for boaters and effectively removes any last entry barriers to buying an inboard towboat for owners who typically have preferred the handling and maneuverability of a traditional outboard or stern drive configuration.”

The patent-pending DockStar Handling System is exclusive to MasterCraft towboats and is available on most 2017 models.
