Jet Ski manufacturer Kawasaki Motors announced the company will establish a new North American corporate headquarters in California.

The company’s new location, at 26972 Burbank, Foothill Ranch, California, is just four miles from its present home in Irvine. It expects to complete the move to its new  200,000-square-foot facility by the summer of 2016.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary in the US next March, Kawasaki is reported to have signed a 15-year lease on its new location, which is being extensively renovated to suit.

“Our purpose in securing a new corporate headquarters is centered around two primary objectives,” said Masa Nakagawa, president and CEO of Kawasaki Motors Corp., USA. “First, with more than 300 of our staff being based in or around Orange County it is critical that our new location remain central to the community. Second, as Kawasaki celebrates its 50th Anniversary in the US in 2016, we wanted to cultivate a new environment that creates and exemplifies the Kawasaki brand and products, and we believe this new space will do just that.”

Best known for its Jet Ski personal watercraft, motorcycles and ATVs, Kawasaki set up its first US sales office in an old meat warehouse in Chicago in 1966. Initially focusing on motorcycles, the company began selling its Jet Ski personal watercraft in the US in 1973.
