The Chicago-based National Marine Manufacturers Association announced last week that it’s premier marine trade show – the annual International BoatBuilders’ Exhibition & Conference (IBEX) – will be held in Tampa through 2018.
Previously alternating between host venues at the Tampa Convention Center and the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, IBEX has consistently drawn higher attendance at its Tampa location. Approximately 4,700 people attended the 2015 IBEX held in Louisville, compared to just under 7,000 who attended the 2014 conference in Tampa. Exhibitor numbers in Louisville were also reported to be down from the previous show in Tampa. “After the IBEX 2014 show in Tampa the marine industry made it very clear that this is where IBEX needs to be,” said IBEX show director Anne Dunbar. “For 2016, IBEX will expand to offer two exhibit halls and in water dock exhibits which will double in size.” Dunbar anticipates show floor space for the 2016 event to approach 200,000 square feet.
The IBEX show moved to Louisville in 2010 from its former venue in Miami Beach as a means of reducing show costs for attendees and exhibitors alike. But a lack of direct flights to Louisville from major centers left many exhibitors and visitors facing logistical challenges and increased travel times.
Open exclusively to the recreational boating industry, the 2016 IBEX will be held at the Tampa Convention Center from October 4 to 6 inclusive.
