Monterey has long enjoyed a dedicated following on the strength of its high-quality construction and innovative designs. Built for a global market, the delightful Monterey 360 SC (short for Sport Coupe) appeals with its versatile, family-friendly seating arrangement that really makes the most of this boat’s open, flowing layout.
Step aboard via its deep rear swim platform, and a starboard-side transom walk-through leads into the cockpit. Sharp eyes will spot the transom shower here, making it easy to quickly spray off any beach sand that’s decided to come for a ride.
That the big Monterey is built for enjoying the outdoors is amply evident in its innovative stern seat, which can be adjusted for forward-facing or aft-facing lounging. Or, drop it flat and enjoy an expansive sun bed. Integrated stainless steel beverage holders keep a cold drink close at hand, while refills can be found close by in a convenient cooler built into the cockpit coaming.
An inviting port-side sofa seat extends forward from the stern, creating a welcoming L-shaped seating area with the transom seat in the forward-facing position. Add a removable cockpit table here and you have a great spot for enjoying lunch with a view. The cockpit seats utilize a contemporary, angular design that gives the boat a fresh and modern look, while still providing sumptuous comfort.
Just ahead of the big lounge, our review boat featured a useful wet bar area on the starboard side, complete with a solid-surface countertop, a sink with faucet, and an available cockpit refrigerator below. Being able to mix some cool drinks or grab some ice cream without having to venture all the way forward to the full galley is a nice treat, again emphasizing this boat’s fun-in-the-sun attitude.
Dual electric sliding helm/companion seats, which can be adjusted for forward-facing or aft-facing seating, along with dual wet bars located to port and starboard help create an open seating area with L-lounge and cockpit table.
A sliding door between the dash consoles of the Monterey 360 SC includes molded-in steps that lead to the bow sun pad. Sliding the door open provides easy access to the boat’s below-decks accommodations.
Up front, a wide V-berth performs double duty as an intimate indoor dining area or, with the table dropped and a filler cushion installed, a comfy spot for the night. A separate aft berth provides further overnight options, though it’s worth remembering that this craft is designed primarily as a day boat with overnight capability, rather than as a long-range cruiser.
The fully-equipped galley is spacious, brightly lit and well appointed, with a surprising amount of storage space. A similar solid-surface counter continues from the cockpit wet bars, while a stainless steel sink, stainless steel refrigerator, a microwave and compact cooktop make the most of the space and give the family chef plenty of options. Beautiful full windows adorn the interior of the Monterey 360 SC, allowing you to never miss a moment while underway. A flat-screen TV and a great stereo system keep everyone entertained later at night or on those odd rainy mornings.
Base power for the Monterey 360 SC is twin MerCruiser 6.2L 350s, which when paired with Bravo III drives provide a maximum speed of over 40 mph. A number of gas and diesel power upgrades from MerCruiser and Volvo Penta are available.
Built for fun on the water, the Monterey 360 SC is a versatile, well designed and beautifully finished day boat that can manage overnight jaunts with ease. There’s a lot to like here, making it easy to understand the growing popularity of this model across North America and around the world
