Honda Marine Launches New BF100 Outboard Marine Engine

Honda Marine has added some new muscle to its mid-range outboard lineup with the all-new BF100.

The 100 horsepower, four-stroke outboard was introduced at the International Boatbuilders’ Exhibition and Conference, held this week in Louisville, Kentucky.

With a full-throttle RPM range of 5,500 to 6,300 rpms, the Honda BF100 is a built on a high-performance, four-cylinder, 1,496 cc (91.4 cubic inch) engine that weighs a comparatively svelte 366 pounds. Sharing design and technology with the engines that power Honda automobiles such as the Accord, CR-V, Civic, Fit, Odyssey, and Pilot, the BF100 utilizes the company’s Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (VTEC) for greater power, torque, and efficiency at any speed. First debuted in the high-performance Acura NSX sports car, VTEC technology provides a flat torque curve and smooth power delivery throughout the engine’s entire operating range.

Additional features of the engine include Honda’s Boosted Low Speed Torque (BLAST) system for improved hole shot and acceleration; Lean Burn Control, which automatically adjusts the air/fuel mix according to speed and load to provide what Honda claims is best-in-class fuel economy in cruise mode (2,000 to 4,500 rpm); programmed electronic fuel injection; and a 44 amp (35 charging amp) alternator for improved battery charging.

Honda notes the new BF100 will be available at Honda Marine dealers nationwide in January, 2016.
