BRP celebrated a strong 2016 first quarter with an 18% year-over-year revenue increase.
The Valcourt, Québec-based manufacturer of Sea-Doo personal watercraft, Evinrude outboard motors and Can-Am all-terrain vehicles posted revenues of $898.1 million – an 18% year-over-year increase – leading to a net income of $83.1 million.
Revenue gains for the first quarter were attributed to stronger shipments of seasonal products. A 46.9% increase in personal watercraft sales attributed to strong sales of the Sea-Doo Spark, along with a 5.3% increase in the sale of propulsion systems attributed to the newly-launched Evinrude G2 outboards, contributed a year-over-year revenue increase of $91.8m for the quarter.
That figure includes a favorable foreign exchange rate variation of $36m attributed primarily to the comparative strengthening of the US dollar.
Revenues from parts, accessories and clothing also increased for the 2016 Q1, to $126.3m, representing a 13.5% gain.
