Fun on the water for you and a friend
Two person towable tubes are a great way to have fun on the water and there are ample choices as all the main manufactures offering models for duos.
There are a few different things to take into account when selecting a tube to buy, including price, material, and shape.
Most tubes have a cover, commonly maid from nylon which typically comes in different weights or thicknesses, known as the denier. The greater the denier number, the stronger the nylon is going to be and it ranges from 420 denier to 840 denier.
Covers for two person towable tubes are also made from polyester which, when coated with PVC, is an alternative to high denier nylon. According to manufacturers, 600 denier coated with PVC vinyl will be as strong as 840 denier nylon.
Two person towable tubes come in all sorts of different shapes and sizes and these can determine how they perform on the water. Some of the most common shapes include a round donut, the oldest version around. It is recommended for adults but some reviews suggest it is not the best for children.
Ride-in tubes are regarded as being better for children as, instead of lying on them, you sit down inside and most models have inflated floors or seating areas that provide comfortable, dry areas for the rider.
Whatever shape or model tube you decide on, there are ample options to suit everyone’s budget and it is worth looking at some of the details to make sure you get the kind of performance you want.
1. Editor’s Choice: O’Brien Baller Soft Top
One of our favorite two person towable tubes is the O’Brien Baller Soft Top, allows riders to be towed in two different positions. You can sit with your back against the rear support, or you can connect your tow rope to the opposite side and ride the Baller Soft Top like a chariot. There are plenty of handholds on the tube for riders to grab on to in any position.
Other features on the O’Brien Baller Soft Top include a dual chamber 28/24 gauge bladder that is covered in 840/420 Denier Nylon for next level durability. There are a total of 12 soft webbing handles and O’Brien’s ultra-comfortable SofTec riding surface.
As well, O’Brien has outfitted the Baller Soft Top with the Quick Connect tow system and Lightning valves for faster inflating and deflating. Able to hold two riders or 340 pounds, it’s bound to be a hit with the kids this summer
2. Rave Razor
Another consideration is being able to easily tow your tube. The Rave Razor 2-Rider Towable is described by the manufacturer as easy to tow by all types of watercraft and features a rear boarding strap.
This particular tube has a low profile for maneuverability and a skim-fast bottom that responds to waves quickly and is recommended for more experienced tubers who are looking for a slick and fast ride.
It comes in at 60 inches by 57 inches and has a heavy duty polyester cover that is fade resistant and repels water and dirt with four foam-filled nylon covered handles and neoprene knuckle guards. It also has a quick connect tow point.
3. Airhead Super Slice
The Airhead Super Slice is one of the most popular towables on the market and is also one of the most affordable. This particular model can hold up to three riders and there are six nylon-wrapped handles to grab onto. EVA padding makes for a more comfortable ride for everybody.
Outfitted with a 30-gauge PVC bladder covered with durable 840 Denier nylon, this towable features a tapered gusset design for impressive towing characteristics.
Getting ready for tow duties is made simple with Airhead’s Kwik-Connect system. Inflating and deflating are quick work thanks to the Speed Safety valve. This design allows for one way inflation so you never lose air when putting on the cap. The double safety valve locks the valve into place. Deflation is just as fast and convenient. Just open the valve and allow the air to expel.
4. SportsStuff Big Mable
One of the most popular two person towable tubes, the Big Mable, has been redesigned with new features including an improved backrest and air cushioned side walls.
This model has dual tow points at front and back, an unique backrest and front riser construction made from heavy duty, full nylon cover with zipper and a patented Aluminum Quick Connect tow point and speed safety valve.
Whatever tube you are using you want to be comfortable and safe and this model has EVA foam pads throughout, multiple grab handles with knuckle guards for two riders up to 340lbs.
Overall it measures 69 inches by 66 inches deflated and 66 inches by 60 inches inflated. It is also a flexible option as it has dual tow points so you can go for a ride using the comfortable backrest or tow in the opposite direction for a chariot-style ride.
This towable also has air cushioned side walls which the manufacturer says will keep you on board, while the redesigned backrest and new custom graphics make it a great model option.
5. SportsStuff Chariot Warbird 2
I love the names given to tubes and the Chariot Warbird 2 from Sports Stuff is no exception and it stands out with its wide wing span with the manufacturer says allows for tight turns and stability.
This tube has a heavy duty full nylon cover with zipper, heavy gauge PVC bladder and a high back recumbent seating while the aluminum quick connect tow system comes with front and rear tow points.
The manufacturer says that it is one of the most two person towable tubes on the water and by simply switching the innovative dual tow points it can be towed in the opposite direction, transforming it into a completely different ride.
As with other tubes, it has a patented speed safety valve for fast inflation and deflation and also has double-webbing foam handles with knuckle pads. One of the extra things about this tube is that it also works as a deluxe floating lounge so you can go for a thrilling ride or just chill in the water.
