Hinckley Yachts has unveiled what it describes as the world’s first fully electric luxury yacht.

The all-new Hinckley Dasher electric luxury yacht has been designed from the start for fully electric propulsion, using hi-tech composite construction and a carbon-epoxy composite hull designed by Michael Peters to provide superior performance and handling. Titanium hardware and console details were both 3D printed to achieve shapes and a level of precision unavailable in typical construction methods.

“Since 1928, Hinckley has pioneered beautiful, timeless, and highly innovative yachts. From the early use of fiberglass in the Bermuda 40 in the 1960’s to the adoption of jet drives on the category-defining Picnic Boat, we’ve always worked to combine the latest technology with cutting edge naval architecture to do what has not yet been done ” said Hinckley president and CEO Peter O’Connell.

The 28-foot, 6-inch Dasher is powered by twin 80 horsepower Torqeedo electric motors and dual BMW i3 lithium ion batteries. It accepts dual 50 amp charging cables so it can gains a full charge in under four hours, said to be twice as fast as the most popular plug-in electric cars. Cruising speed is 10 mph with a 40 mile range, or fast cruising at 18 to 27 mph with a range of 20 to 25 miles.
