Tiller precision with up to 200 horsepower
Big, tiller-powered aluminum fishing boats were the brainchild of northern walleye anglers who needed precise boat control in a package with plenty of interior space and the power to travel long distances over rough, open waters. With their tiller controls incorporating both engine throttle and steering in a single unit, these unique boats let anglers position the boat exactly where it needs to be with only one hand, leaving the other free to hold the rod and feel for delicate bites.
One of the first manufacturers to develop big tiller boats was Lund, which quickly built a strong following among serious walleye anglers on the strength of its big tiller designs. That popularity endures to this day with boats like the new Lund 2075 Pro Guide refining the basic design with the most modern equipment and features.
This 20-foot-plus tiller fishing boat represents the top of Lund’s Pro Guide line, with every fishing feature imaginable. Built for versatile anglers who cast, troll, drift and anchor, the front half of the boat is almost entirely elevated front casting deck. In fact, that huge front deck is large enough to accommodate a couple of anglers with room to spare.
Underneath its carpeted surface you’ll find a mass of storage space, including four oversized gear lockers, an 11-gallon aerated live well that’s 27 inches long, plus a massive central rod storage locker capable of handling 15 rods in individual protective tubes. There’s also a deck mounting pad located far forward for a boa-mount electric motor, with a wiring harness. Aluminum bases for the removable Pro Ride pedestal seats. The boat comes with three seats and six bases, allowing them to be positioned wherever they’re needed.
Step down in to the main cockpit of the Lund 2075 Pro Guide and even more storage space can be found within the gunnels, including another rod locker concealed beneath the starboard side gunnel, and a huge gear locker to port. There are also cargo nets along the gunnel sides for small items you’ll reach for repeatedly. Flush-mount cup holders in the gunnels are conveniently paced to keep a coffee close by at all times. The gunnel caps sport Lund’s Sportrak Protrak extrusion, allowing accessories like rod holders to be mounted anywhere without having to drill holes in the boat.
The real business office on the Lund 2075 Pro Guide is at the back where the driver gets the Royal Throne treatment. The driver’s seat not only swivels, it slides as well so it can be positioned for optimal comfort. Facing the driver is Lund’s Command Console, with engine gauges, electrical controls, the stereo control head, plenty of space for aftermarket electronics and two large, deep dividable drawers for storing everything from the truck keys and cell phones to cameras and still more fishing tackle.
Need yet more storage space? A pair of in-floor storage compartments swallow even more gear. For an open boat, the Lund 2075 Pro Guide has an unbelievable amount of secure storage space – it’s quite amazing, really.
The stern provides plenty of transom space for a second electric motor or a small kicker outboard in addition to the main engine, as well as a massive 22-gallon aerated live well that’s 42 inches long.
Riding on Lund’s Integrated Power Strake 2 twin-plated hull, the 2075 Pro Guide is rated to handle outboards up to 200 horsepower. But unless you really need the big power for pro-level tournaments, you’ll be happy to learn the boat runs very well with far fewer ponies, and without giving up too much top-end speed. The efficient hull design works quite well with a 115, and even better with a fuel-efficient 150.
It may not be for everyone, but for anglers who fish for a variety of different species and who need the precise boat handling that only a big tiller can provide, the Lund 2075 Pro Guide is an attractive option.
