The National Marine Manufacturer’s Association (NMMA) reports that wholesale shipments of new boats and outboard engines are running anywhere from 3.4 to 16.3% higher than figures for the same period in 2015.

Outboard engine wholesale shipments in the United States were reported to be up by 6.7% year-over-year through July for NMMA’s control group of manufacturers, which collectively represent 95% of the market. Gains were once again led by four-strokes and higher-powered engines. Total retail sales based on warranty card registrations for the same period were up 8% over 2015 figures.

Wholesale shipments of powerboats for NMMA’s control group of manufacturers (representing 69% of the market) were reported to be up by 3.4% over the previous year through June. Corresponding dollars were up by a full 9.1%.

In Canada, NMMA reports that wholesale shipments of outboard engines through July were 16.3% higher than the same period last year. Corresponding dollars were up by 28.6%, reflecting continuing, fluctuating currency exchange rates between the Canadian and US dollars. Total retail sales for the period based on warranty card registrations were up 1.4%  year-over-year.

Figures for wholesale shipments of boats were not provided for the Canadian market.
