Sea Ray has earned more than its share of accolades over the past 50 years, with a full line of yachts, cruisers and sport boats and a reputation for innovation and high production quality. That tremendous legacy lives on today in the company’s all-new 210 SLX.
The SLX models combine sporty layouts (the “S”) with luxurious interior (the “LX”) to create a uniquely high-end sport boat that could be accurately compared to a luxury SUV, like a BMW X5 or Mercedes M-Class. It will carry the whole family and all their gear, and still feel like a sports car the whole time.
That impressive utility begins with an expansive, full-beam, aft swim platform, complete with a remote control for the stereo and a convenient step and walk-through platform for easy boarding. An available air compressor makes it a cinch to inflate towable water toys right on the spot.
The main cockpit can be specified with your a choice of two different seating layouts. The standard arrangement provides a step-over centerline engine compartment with a sunpad up top and forward-facing corner seats, while an alternate layout with an offset rear bench seat, sunpad behind it, and a starboard-side transom walk-through offers more space to lay out and work on your tan. In both cases, the driver and companion ride on supportive bucket seats with flip-up bolsters and buttery-soft upholstery. Snap-in carpeting comes as standard equipment while all of the hardware is stainless steel – cleats, railings, beverage holders, ski tow ring, and even the docking light bezels.
The passenger console provides convenient storage in its lockable glove compartment. The helm console offers an automotive-style dash with stainless trim and glass-lensed instruments. Or, select the available Digital Dash with touch-screen display to integrate all vessel data in one place – complete with a Raymarine a65 chart-plotter and integrated audio controls. The Digital Dash further integrates with smartphones and tablets, and features a Rockford Fosgate stereo system with Bluetooth connectivity and MP3 media inputs.
In the floor between the consoles you’ll find an enormous storage locker that’s ideal for bulky gear like water skis, wakeboards, and the like. Twin gas rams support its lid – like all others on the 210 SLX –, so you can use both hands to stow or retrieve gear.
Step between the consoles and a walk-through takes you to the roomy bow. There’s storage in the seat bases here, and an available filler cushion can be used to convert this space into a large continuous sun pad.
On those cool autumn mornings, you can close the bow off completely thanks to the sleek walk-through windshield and a solid gate that retracts into the passenger console.
The 210 SLX comes with a long list of standard features, as well as a number of useful options including a Bimini top (with stainless steel frame) and indirect blue LED cockpit lighting for a little extra security on those twilight cruises.
Standard power in the 210 SLX is a MerCruiser 4.3L V6 sterndrive that belts out a healthy 220 horsepower. But those with a need for speed can select the available 300 horsepower MerCruiser 350 Magnum.
Sea Ray’s 210 SLX is a versatile and enjoyable runabout that does a lot of things really well. With its innovative design features and Sea Ray’s legendary attention to detail, this luxurious and sporty 21-footer can’t help but please.
