Jeppesen has announced that it has sold its marine division to Oslo, Norway-based Digital Marine Solutions.

Under the agreement, Jeppesen Marine will now operate under the C-MAP brand name. The balance of the Jeppesen business remains as part of Boeing.

Digital Marine Solutions is already well entrenched in the marine industry, as the majority owner of the Navico marine brands including Lowrance, Simrad, MX Marine, B&G and GoFree. The acquisition of C-MAP ensures that Navico and other third-party brands will continue to have access to the full C-MAP portfolio of electronic charts for both recreational and commercial marine. The company’s intention is to further develop C-MAP’s capabilities and sales by offering enhanced charting, digital content, and services solutions, according to a press release.

Digital Marine Solutions is owned by the Altor 2003 Fund, which is part of the Altor family of private equity funds.

“Jeppesen Marine is one of the premier players in electronic charting and value added services for recreational and commercial marine,” said Leif Ottosson, future chairman. “We look forward to working with the Jeppesen Marine team to create fresh innovations and to continue to work with Jeppesen Marine’s existing customers to further grow the business.”

Pending regulatory approval, the transaction is expected to be completed by summer 2016.
