An unexpected catch of the day
A fisherman in Australia was about a half-mile offshore looking for snapper when a great white shark unexpectedly breached and landed right in his boat, according to a report from ABC in Australia.
Terry Selwood says he was in about 40 feet of very calm water with no feeder fish near the surface when the shark suddenly appeard.
“I caught a blur of something coming over the boat … and the pectoral fin of the shark hit me on the forearm and knocked me down on the ground to my hands and knees,” Selwood told ABC. “There I was on all fours and he’s looking at me and I’m looking at him and then he started to do the dance around and shake and I couldn’t get out quick enough onto the gunnel.”
According to Selwood, the shark measured about 8.8 feet long and weighed approximately 440 pounds. Considering his boat is less than five feet wide and 14.75 feet long, that was undoubtedly a tight squeeze.
