A free download from Humminbird allows owners of the company’s ONIX units to add CHIRP capability at no cost.
Humminbird has announced it has made a new downloadable software update which brings new, enhanced capabilities to its ONIX products.
The version 2.700 software, a free download through the Humminbird Select Program, allows existing ONIX units and transducers to use CHIRP 2D sonar technology. With no additional hardware purchase or change in installation, ONIX units with the upgrade provide better target separation and greater image clarity.
“CHIRP is another technology that helps build a more complete picture of what’s going on under your boat,” says Humminbird brand manager, Jeff Kolodzinski. “Used along with Side Imaging, Down Imaging, 360 Imaging, and amazing cartography like Humminbird LakeMaster charts, CHIRP is another tool anglers can add to their arsenal to become more formidable at finding and catching fish.”
The version 2.700 software also brings Depth Contour Labels to the AutoChart Live feature, revealing numerical depth data for easier navigation and fishing. Additional upgrades include added sonar auto detect on/off options, 2D sonar digital depth tracking improvements, Navionics performance upgrades, increased boat icon and chart performance at low speeds, and more.
To begin the update process, users should first verify they have registered their product in the free Humminbird Select Program and have previously updated to the most current software previous to Version 2.700. Following product registration, users can download the software update, unzip the update, then copy the files to a blank 4 GB or greater Class 6 SD card. Eject the card, install it in your Humminbird ONIX unit, then once the files have finished copying, restart the unit to use the new functionality.
