Innovation is clearly alive and well in the boatbuilding industry as 108 new products from 92 companies in 24 different countries competed for top honors at the 25th annual Design Award METS (DAME) Award, which was presented Tuesday at the Marine Equipment Trade Show (METS) in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
From those entries seven category winners and two overall winners were selected by the judging jury, the first time that the top honor has ever been shared by two co-winners – Humphree’s new Electric Stabilizer Fin and Interceptor System and Spinlock’s new Lume-On safety LED.
Humphree’s Electric Stabilizer Fin and Interceptor System was recognized for its ability to rotate 360 degrees to combat anchor walking, while its failsafe fin attachment design preserves integrity in case of hull strike.
Spinlock’s Lume-On is a tiny LED light that attached underneath the outer nylon shell of any lifejacket, using the outer covering as a diffuser and turning the entire device into a glowing light to facilitate rescue in low light conditions or even total darkness.
