More than 600 people representing over 200 boat dealerships worldwide descended on new Paris, Indiana for the Smoker Craft Inc. 2016 model year dealer meeting. They were not disappointed, as the parent company to the Smoker Craft, Starcraft, Sylvan, Sunchaser and Starweld boat brands revealed a wide range of new product topped by a twin-engine version of its popular Sylvan S5 Extreme sport pontoon.
Powered by a pair of Yamaha F250s four-stroke outboards, the S5 Extreme Twin was just one of 22 new boats available for on-water testing at northern Indiana’s Lake Wawasee. Also available for sea trials was a new Starcraft SCX powered by Volvo Penta’s new Forward Drive, plus a range of new aluminum fishing and pontoon product and all-new fiberglass deck boats. In all, more than different 178 boats were displayed on land at the company’s headquarters in nearby New Paris.
Business has been good for Smoker Craft Inc., which offered tours of its newly-completed 90,000 square-foot addition to its pontoon manufacturing facility. “We’ve seen over 260 cement trucks in here over the past several months as we expanded our facilities,” said Smoker Craft president Doug Smoker. “That includes our new pontoon plant addition, plus a large multi-use platform located adjacent to our main building.”
While the company’s pontoon business has been brisk, dealers in attendance showed a great deal of enthusiasm for its new aluminum fishing and fiberglass sport boats. That included a number of models built specifically for export, including a new Traverse pontoon line designed to be shipped overseas in a standard container. Overseas sales are said to represent a growing proportion of the company’s overall revenues.
