A commercial real estate firm in Vancouver, BC, has donated $1,000,000 to help fund the construction of a new public marina and recreational center on the city’s popular False Creek waterfront.
Concord Pacific announced it has committed the funding to help expedite construction of a planned $3.2 million marina and paddling center, to be located on the east side of False Creek, already one of the city’s most popular boating areas. The marina facilities, expected to be completed by December, will provide new docks and storage facilities for kayakers and other boaters.
“This million dollar contribution by Concord to the creation of a new paddling center is a big boost for Vancouver’s dragon boat community, and makes False Creek an even more desirable neighbourhood to live in,” says Vancouver Mayor, Gregor Robertson. “Concord has been a long-time supporter of dragon boating, along with several city-wide events and charities, and their contribution is a great example of how new development can create real benefits for local neighborhoods.”
Peter Webb, Concord Pacific’s senior vice president of development, said the new docks will ensure a future for watersports on False Creek.
“Over the past 20-plus years, Concord has been the largest private contributor of parks, seawall, water access and community infrastructure downtown.”
